WHY DID I RELAX MY HAIR?

As a woman that loved my 4c hair, why did I texturize or relax my hair?

The temptation to relax natural hair to cut down on styling and detangling time can be really strong. So strong a person is willing to douse their hair with sodium hydroxide (relaxer) in order to achieve a looser curl pattern. This looser curl pattern, in theory, will cut down on detangling time and improve the quality of life as a result.

Well, I was wrong. In an attempt to texturize my hair, I relaxed it nearly bone straight. The he key detail I missed, however, was maintaining physically vulnerable hair while managing new growth. The chemical dangers of relaxer, mixed with the maintenance was a recipe for disaster, and I ended up big chopping less than a year later. In fact, I only texturized/relaxed my hair that initial time.

This video walks you through my thought process before relaxing my hair.
