WILL THIS WORK?

Tik Tok and Instagram reels have blown up and I am living for all of the hair hacks that have surfaced. I’ve always wondered if they’d work on my type 4 hair, so today we are testing the braid out (my #2 nemesis behind Bantu knots)

A FEW HELPFUL TIPS

Here are some tips for the braid out “challenged” like me.

Damp Hair

  • Begin on damp hair. Wet hair will give you more definition, but less length. If you prefer a fuller look, damp hair is the way to go.

Moisturize

  • Moisturize and seal. Moisturizing on damp hair always leaves my hair feeling soft and fluffy. The light weight oil helps seal in the hydration.

Curl the Ends

  • If you hate the look of lifeless ends, add perm rods on the ends of your braids to give them shape.

Less is More

  • Four or five braid maximum is the sweet spot for dense hair. Not only will you have a fuller look, you won’t spend 30 minutes trying to unravel them.

Keep Trying

Don’t give up! I’m not a huge fan of braid outs, but that’s because I’m still perfecting my technique. If you’re struggling, keep trying. Practice makes…better. If you have some tips to share, don’t hesitate to share them in the comment section.
